Cervical spondylosis, also known as cervical osteoarthritis or neck arthritis, is a common, age-related condition that affects the joints and discs in your neck.
Cervical spondylosis is a disorder in which there is wear on the cartilage (disks) and bones of the neck (cervical vertebrae). It is a common cause of chronic neck pain.
Donot depend on place
Both sexes are affected equally, but problems begin earlier in males.
When we get older the dics of spine become drier and less elastic.
This starts in the nucleus pulposes, the water content will decrease and will buckling inward, the annulus fibrosis will become thinner and bulge outward.(herniation)
When the intervertebral disc will become thinner,it will increase the mechanical stress at the cartilagenous end plates at the vertebral body.
The surrounding ligaments become less flexible, and the vertebra may develop bone spurs.
1) Neck stiffness.
2)Neck pain radiates to shoulder and arms.
3)Numbness and abnormal sensations in neck and arms.
4)Headaches(especially back of head).
5)Loss of balance.
6)Numbness and weakness in legs, loss of bladder or bowel control if spinal cord is compressed.
7)Pain may range through mild to severe
Screening and diagnosis
Check flexibility of neck
Perform Nerve fuction tests
SOFT COLLARS(NECK IMMOBILIZATION)
Limit neck motion
Allow muscles of neck to rest
Should be wear for short period, unless can decrease the strength of neck muscles
Increased blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to that area.
Slows circulation helps to reduce inflammation. After cold therapy, your therapist may stretch your affected muscles
Ask patient to use tens unit at home to relieve pain.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
This technique targets spasms and chronic muscle tension.
The therapist uses direct pressure and friction, tries to release the pressure in your soft tissues.
